The mastermind behind the Yakkala attack Tilvin Silva must be immediately arrested

The article “The Country Rapidly Becoming a Criminal State” by Rate Raala discusses the indecent political operations currently taking place in the country. The Malima Government, which came to power promising a beautiful country and a beautiful life for the people, is now sliding into a constitutional dictatorship. The JVP, moving towards a single-party rule, has developed a childish habit of pointing the finger of threat at anyone who opposes them, regardless of rank.

Within eleven months, the Anura–Tilvin–Malima government has forgotten all the promises given to the people, shamelessly turned their backs on every one of them, and become an anti-people regime. Under the guise of enforcing the law, it engages in political revenge and violates the human rights of the people. Not only that, it hands over the people’s property to its cronies and foreigners without any accountability.

The JVP first robbed the people’s mandate through lies. Then it usurped power in many local government bodies. Using state power, it is now seizing control of civil organizations ranging from youth societies to temple committees. Next, they plan to confiscate the property of their political opponents. On one side, they hand over acres of land to their friends, and on the other side, they seize leased lands from those with opposing political views.

Through this endless revenge, the JVP aims to silence people. That’s their usual method. First, they use suppression. If that fails, the next step is elimination. Now, their next target is social media and civil society activists. They already have a plan in place to neutralize all social activists who hold opposing views.

The first step is intimidation: creating fear, legal harassment in different forms, and entangling people in conflicts to silence them. Already, those generating strong anti-government sentiment on social media have become their targets. Therefore, don’t be surprised if soon you too receive a visit from “comrades.” In reality, the JVP is pushing this country towards a bloodbath. Otherwise, would the General Secretary of a ruling party send thugs to attack the Yakkala Peratugami office..?

The complainant in that case is Tilvin Silva. Was it not at Tilvin’s command that about 150 JVP thugs stormed that office early the next morning? Did Mahinda Jayasinghe not go there under Tilvin’s influence? Wasn’t it on Tilvin’s orders that Ananda Wijepala summoned the police and STF? Some people were happy about the attack on the Peratugami. Some even said it was good to hit extremists like the JVP. But Rate Raala completely opposes assaulting someone merely for holding a political opinion.

To Rate Raala the attack on the Peratugami office is more than just an assault — it is another qualitative leap in JVP repression. Long before the presidential election, Rate Raala warned that if the JVP came to power, the country would become a bloodbath. After gaining power, they suppressed dissent until the general election. With the local elections, their campaign of repression began. Reports have emerged from different areas of JVP MPs visiting homes and issuing threats.

These MPs claim they came on instructions from party headquarters. The same people who once said that after winning the presidential and parliamentary elections they wouldn’t even throw a pebble at anyone are today storming political offices, smashing people’s heads, assaulting helpless elderly women, and seizing buildings by force. Not only that, they are arriving at houses in unmarked vehicles with altered plates to issue threats. Even Iraj Weerarathne and Milinda Rajapakshe (Supporters of Namal Rajapakshe) who run the “Bai Thaksalawa” campaign, have reported receiving such intimidation.

That is why Rate Raala says that storming the Peratugami office is yet another major step in JVP repression. So far, intimidation was carried out through messages, phone calls, and messengers. Now, they have escalated to physical threats and assaults. Rate Raala says the JVP has now entered that stage. Therefore, at any time in the dead of night, Tilvin’s political henchmen could come knocking at your door. In the past, the JVP’s “unknown gunman” struck only once.

That stage has not yet come. But now JVP thugs act openly, even after alerting the police. That’s what happened in Yakkala. Sometimes even half-baked ministers like Mahinda Jayasinghe join in. Rate Raala says the situation will not remain as it is. As repression escalates further, it will bring about yet another qualitative leap in JVP oppression. Once that leap occurs, society will have to pay a heavy price to put an end to it.

That is why Rate Raala says: no matter against whom repression is directed, we must oppose it. To form a united front against state repression, all anti-government forces must immediately come together and defeat this situation from the very start. If  the IGP  of this country has a backbone, Tilvin Silva and Mahinda Jayasinghe must be immediately arrested.

Alright then, I’ll take my leave,
Victory to All, Cheers,
